                                Some Personal Reflections, by Adisaji

Gwynelle Dismukes is a rare gem, a shooting brite star, a soulful evolution of spirit, she
is my soul mate who stood far away from me, for far too long. I remember first meeting
this energetic and vibrant sister in the early 1980s in Washington, DC when the Ikologiks
programs were just getting under way. Our embrace from that first moment was nurturing
and supporting and I knew she would go on to do great things.

Gwynelle relocated to Nashville, TN in the late 1980s and it was there I would travel some
years later when I launched my first national tour with Ecologics: Self-Empowerment
Intensives throughout the USA. I recall spending the heat of that June in Nashville for
some weeks being hosted in her home. Gwynelle has two lovely children and we seemed
to bond immediately. Her friends would drop by and we shared moments of laughter,
African drumming and heated discussions surrounding consciousness or the African-
American struggle. She introduced me to Third Eye founder and radio jock Jeff Carr and
so many others throughout Nashville. I remember the June-teenth celebration
(commemorating the freedom of Negro slaves) in Nashville was the very first I intended.
Gwynelle made sure I participated fully and was able to network & exchange with so many
lovely brothers and sisters. While she urged me to stay on and relocate myself to
Nashville, TN I reluctantly departed and would never find her warm hugs and embrace
    again.

I sadly learned of her celebration of transition only this year (2010). The news came
through a third party, who I led to contact by a former student of Ecologics Tim Moore (a
well established writer/researcher in his own right). I will write more later on Geynelle, but
I wanted to get this "tribute page" going immediately. -Adisa Maina Omar- Copyright 2010

    Biographical Sketch
    gwen.evolution
    (Gwynelle Dismukes) 1952-2009

gwen.evolution, writer and facilitator, is the author of Afrikan Alkhemy: Spiritual
and Soul Transformation in America and Practicing Kwanzaa Year Round. Her
latest book is
Black 2 the Future.

From 1995-99, gwen.evolution published an alternative community
newspaper, Brite Moments, and her articles appeared in The Tennessean,
Common Ground, and Third Eye newspapers. She was instrumental in starting
the Hadley Park concert series, and was the co-producer of the first
reggae/world beat music program on commercial radio in Nashville. gwen.
evolution has been an active promoter of African cultural events, especially
Kwanzaa, and was the
assistant curator at the Sankofa African Heritage Museum. In 1998 she moved
to an intentional rural community, where she helped to produce vegetarian and
alternative health books and was the editor of the community’s weekly
newsletter. Her articles and poetry are circulated through the internet
andspecialty publications.

For the past fifteen years, gwen.evolution has conducted a variety of
presentations and workshops on subjects ranging from conflict resolution to
African spirituality. Her Kwanzaa presentations have been enjoyed by schools,
churches, and community groups. She uses a dynamic approach that includes
guided visualization and audience participation to create the space for each
person to have their own liberating experience of mind, body and soul.

A student of many spiritual systems, gwen.evolution incorporates into her work
elements of metaphysics, eastern and African religions, meditation, Egyptian
mysteries, esoteric doctrines and revealed teachings. She believes the human
species is evolving beyond limited thought patterns focused on material survival
and gain; we are becoming more aware of the importance of energy,
our thoughts, and our interaction with the non-material world. Her work is
designed to help uncover and process new information from ourselves and the
universe, allowing us to work in harmony with one another and manifest the
divine plan for creation.
We have created this page because the main focus of Ikologiks Center for Global Studies is the celebration of "Life" or "Ankh Consciousness."
We inner-stand that those that depart from this plain of consciousness due to illness, accident or old age have not really departed.
The ancestors remain always with us in our hearts and minds, until the day comes when we join them in the transition.
These pages will celebrate the lives of those leaving us since 2005, and beyond, rather than throughout history.
