| ORIGINS OF THE ICGS IKOLOGIKS CENTER for GLOBAL STUDIES ONLINE VIRTUAL CAMPUS |
The origins of the current ICGS developed out of a specific fifteen year “experimental” process (1979 – 2005) when the founder and subsequently the AUM-IAIAS, Inc. sponsored Ikologiks Training Intensives, workshops, seminars & courses throughout the USA, and in other parts of the world. The participants that enrolled in these Ikologiks training programs provided a unique empirical testing ground for the core techniques and pedagogic approaches that are now being incorporated into the ICGS curriculum structure. The information derived from these pilot programs are also serving as an evolutionary 'software development' console that will impact all aspects of the ICGS global initiatives as they emerge in the decades ahead. The Global Question, Globalization The founder of the ICGS Adisa Maina Omar, (aka Roger M. Davis) has spent over a quarter century studying the cultural traditions and socio-political economic processes inherently present in the people of the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia. This unique global perspective and level of analysis was undertaken by Adisa Maina Omar in order to create an alternative to the current globalization patterns and how we study the question of globalization, or the impact it is having throughout the modern world. Globalization is a "supranational" system, which surfaced in the latter-half of the 20th Century with the creation of numerous global governance institutions. The primary globalization institutions emerging from that era were solely economic in basis with an expressed political hegemony being given to the European, Russian Federation (former USSR) and United States of America nation states. For example, the formation of the League of Nations, United Nations, Bretton-Woods Accords, WTO, NAFTA, CFR, GATT, Trilateral Commission, European Union, ASEAN, and other bodies of global leadership are indicative of these patterns in globalization that the I.C.G.S. ultimately seeks to transform and offer alternatives. Therefore, the creation of the Ikologiks Center for Global Studies is an genuine attempt to not only study and define current globalization patterns, but to offer alternatives, or to seek solutions to global problems (i.e. global warming) through our global array of faculty, students and staff. Finally, the enrolling students and applying faculty members should be aware that the ICGS does not see "ikologiks theory" as a unchallenged model for the academic program or curriculum offered at our global "online campus" nor does the Iko-Meditation Technique serve as the only valid methodology of transformational technology imparted for our students to learn. We are recruiting faculty that range from evangelical Christians, to atheist, to practicing Hindus and orthodox Muslims or Jews, to Shamans and those with traditional degrees, to those without. The vision of the ICGS in tackling the immense issues of globalization is to create a microcosm of the existing world within the ranks of our faculty, staff and students.
"An Advocate of Transformationalism & A Sane Path of Globalization" Adisa Maina Omar has visited or spent time living/working with nationals of such countries as Antigua, South Korea, Canada, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Cuba, France, Germany, UK, Ireland, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Iran, South Africa, Ecuador and Mexico over the past twenty- five years in order to refine, examine, and build upon his understanding of the diverse cultural traditions celebrated around the world. In addition, he has experienced a diverse range of blue collar and white collar jobs ("from working at Prudential Insurance as a Manager, to Pizza Hut & Dominoes as a delivery driver, to be a waiter, HR Manager, etc.") throughout his life in order to better understand the nature of class society. In so doing, Adisaji has not followed the path of an ascetic or one who has escaped into the "forest or mountains" to attain "enlightenment." Nor has he opted to live the lifestyle and class privileges afforded to the social elite or those reaching his level of academic and intellectual achievement. Instead, his views and understanding are pragmatic, rational and at the same time are representative of his over twenty-five years of personal meditation and spiritual practices, or being a graduate of Cornell University, and having attended the Graduate School of International Studies at Korea University. As such, he certainly does not see himself as a mystic or 'guru' yet he embraces his students with the love, dedication and sensitivity common with such personages. The ideas and philosophical constructs that are being applied in the development of the I.C.G.S. draw upon this rich and diverse background found in the personal life experiences of the founder, Adisa Maina Omar. |
